Cody Groat, a vibrant young man whose spirit and warmth touched everyone he met, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on the evening of Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Fort Myers, Florida. He was only in his twenties, with a life full of promise and joy ahead of him.
Cody was known for his unwavering loyalty, his ability to make others feel seen and valued, and the love he gave freely. He was always “all in” for his family, friends, and loved ones—someone you could count on in any situation. His mother, who called him “Bug,” remembers him as her heart. He would often shout “MAHHHH!” just to make her laugh and connect.
Though Cody once joked that no one would miss him if anything ever happened, the overwhelming outpouring of grief and love from those closest to him proves how deeply he was cherished. Cody was never alone in this world; the immense light he shared with others will never be forgotten.
Cody’s bond with his fiancée, Chelsea Wilson, was deep and beautiful. They were soulmates who dreamed of a future together, a future that was abruptly changed. Cody was also a protective, playful big brother to his sisters Dakota (his “Kowa”), Georgieanna (known as “Gege”), Victoria, and Cheyenne, and to his brother Christopher (“Bubby”).
Cody’s life was shaped by the love of his mother and “bonus dad,” Steve Harris, who raised him as his own for over 26 years. Their bond was a testament to the respect and strength of their relationship. He also shared a close connection with his Aunt Lorraine and cousins Crystal, Todd, and Buddy, all of whom are deeply grieving his loss.
A selfless soul, Cody was the one who would drop everything to help others. Now, his family and friends are left longing for the one more conversation, one more embrace, and one more “I love you.”
